De-matting is the careful removal of knots and tangles from your dog’s coat.
This is not recommended for sick, old or aggressive dogs. If a dog is severely matted it may be advised to shave the coat off.
Why we shave them is because mats rest tightly on the skin, they often hide pre-existing conditions.
Most importantly when mats get in ears it will restrict blood flow so they can cause hematomas.
Mats can form when loose fur gets trapped and isn’t brushed out regularly, especially in long or curly-coated breeds like Cockapoos, Spaniels, and Poodles.
Mild matting can often be gently worked out using special tools and techniques. However, severe matting may require clipping the coat shorter to avoid causing pain or stress to your dog.

Seeing clippers is the most safest option, but if we free in safe doing so we would ask you to take your pick to vets as it’s too bad for us to do.
🧡 My Approach
I always put your dog’s comfort first. If de-matting can be done safely and without distress, I’ll work slowly and gently, using detangling products and the right tools. If the matting is too tight or widespread, I’ll recommend a humane clip-off and work with you on a grooming plan to prevent it from happening again.
🐾 What’s Included:
✅Coat assessment before grooming begins
✅Gentle brushing and mat removal (if appropriate)
✅Use of coat-safe detangling sprays and tools
✅Advice on brushing and coat care at home
✅Follow-up grooming schedule if needed
📌 Please note:
Severe matting can lead to skin irritation, discomfort, or even infection. In these cases, I will always act in your dog’s best interest and may clip the coat short to give them relief. I’ll discuss everything with you beforehand and make sure you’re fully informed.
✅ Regular brushing at home and routine grooming visits can help avoid matting and keep your dog feeling great.
This is not included in normal grooming charges. If a dog is badly matted this will be discussed when the dog arrives at the salon and depending on how much extra work is required additional charges may apply.
